FAMILY DEVELOPMENT NETWORK

The Family Development Network (FDN) Program is a collaborative effort to help families attain economic/financial self sufficiency and general well-being by providing seamless services which help individuals combat poverty and its correlates. The FDN targets poor to low-income children, youth, and families residing in the city of Los Angeles (CIPAs 2 & 3).

The lead agency, The Children's Collective, Inc., coordinates the collaborative team agencies including: Coalition of Mental Health Professionals, Community Centers, Inc., National Family Life and Education Center, Surviving in Recovery, Inc., UAW-LETC One-Stop Career Center, Credit Counseling Services of Los Angeles, and L.A. County Bar/Dispute Resolution Center.

The FDN services are offered Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 7:00 P.M. Program services are described below:

THE FAMILY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM seeks to help families overcome barriers to economic self-sufficiency and general well-being, and build family strength and resiliency through the following services: Information and Referral, Case Management, Family Management Workshops, Job Training/Placement, Adult Education, Parent Education, ESL, Individual/Family Counseling, and Personal Financial Management.

THE YOUTH ADVOCACY PROGRAM attempts to stabilize the family unit for youth at-risk of criminal activity and their families. First time juvenile offenders referred by the LAPD will participate in After School Enrichment, Counseling, Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention, and Mentoring. Parents of first time offenders will be referred by the City Attorney's Office to attend a mandatory Parenting Class. Case Management services will be provided for the whole family.

THE CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM will help children 0-5 years of age acquire age appropriate developmental skills (cognitive, language, physical, socio-emotional) and provide support to families working, in training, or seeking employment. This component includes both direct services and referrals to center-based programs.
