COMMUNITY COALITION The Community Coalition for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAP) is a collaborative effort to delay adolescent sexual behavior, reduce the incidence of pregnant and parenting teens, and promote positive, responsible parenting, especially among adolescent fathers. Coordinated by The Children's Collective, Inc., coalition members include: Y.O.U. Alternative HIgh School, Crenshaw High School, Riley High School, Charles Drew University, AMASSI Center, El Nido Family Services, L.A. Bridges Program, National Family LIfe and Education Center, National Latino Fatherhood & Family Institute, Rosa Parks Sexual Assault Center, SPA-6 area Health Offices, T.H.E. Clinic, Teens on Target, True Vine Baptist Church, Watts Health Foundation, Youth and Family Centers, and Youth and Damily AFLP. Major program components are as follows: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT is designed to support and empower young men and women to improve problem solving, decision making skills, and coping skills. The Women's Rap Group is a weekly support group which focuses on personal and social issues significant to the young women. The Men's Rites of Passage class also meets weekly, and is based on Visions, a personal responsibility curriculum for young men, parenting and non-parenting. EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (Health and Sex Education, Prenting, Student Projects) is designed to enhance student knowledge oabout reproductive physiology, contraception, pregancy and effective parenting strategies. As part of the ffort to establish clear standards, Student Projects will engage students in independent activities (e.g. making videos, writing stories) about abstinence and pregnancy prevention. MENTORING provides students with trusting, supportive adult role models, who expose students to alternate activities and lifestyles.
