The Family, Friends and Neighbors (FFN) Project trains and mentors the people who constitute the largest group of child caregivers in Los Angeles County:  unlicensed family, friends and neighbors.

The training and social support are designed to improve the quality of care provided by these caregivers, who typically lack education and training in child development.

Staff train caregivers in their own homes, providing them with

  • Current  information on brain development, child psychology and early learning  in
  •                  an engaging  person- to- person format
  • Modeling of appropriate caregiver-child interactions
  • Goody Boxesfilled with developmentally and culturally appropriate toys and supplies.
  •

Additionally, the program reduces social isolation among the caregivers through caregiver social events as well as group events organized for the children.
