TCCI’s Youth Advocacy Program (YAP) provides life-affirming alternatives to youth at-risk of gang involvement, street violence, and domestic violence as well as first time juvenile offenders and youth on probation.

TCCI assists these youth by helping stabilize the entire family unit.  Parents participate in court-mandated parenting classes and are provided with family counseling and resources.  Working with youth from 12 to 17 years old, YAP reduces the risk of gang involvement and helps youth make positive, constructive decisions to achieve their potential.

Youth are referred to TCCI’s YAP by LAPD, County Probation, parents, and the courts.

Services to youth include:

  • Counseling
  • Mentoring
  • Anger Management
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Decision-making
  • Therapeutic Theater
  • Substance Abuse Prevention/Intervention, and
  • Workshops On Sexually Transmitted Disease And Contraception.

About 70% of participants graduate from the program and:

  • Avoid further involvement with the criminal justice system
  • Improve their social/emotional health
  • Increase school attendance and grades
  • Avoid drug use

Youth enrolled in YAP as well as other community youth maintain physical fitness through active sports and leisure activities (basketball, soccer, volleyball, aerobics, free weights, and yoga) offered by the Rita Walters Learning Complex.
