FIRST FIVE
CHILD CARE SUPPORT AND TRAINING PROJECT

The Child Care Support and Training Project is a collaborative program that seeks to improve developmental outcomes for high risk children ages birth to five years, and improves the quality of child care in centers and family day care homes. The project provides services within two broad program components: Child and Family Development and Training Education. The program targets low-income children, their families, and teachers and providers in child care centers and family day care homes.

The Children's Collective, Inc. collaborates with Crystal Stairs, Riley High School for Pregnant Teens, Regional Center for Development Disabilities, Y.O.U. Alternative High School, South Central Child Care Consortium, Southwest Community College, QUESS Medical, and Colgate Bright Smiles Program.

Child and Family Development

* Mainstreamed child development and therapeutic services to special needs children and support services to parents and families

*Integrated health services; On-site medical, dental, and mental health serviecs to children, parents, families, pregnant women, and adolecents.

*Early learning and literacy: Home-based intervention and educaiton for postpartum adolescent mothers, center-based Mommy and Me classes, and a classroom-based literacy program.

Training and Education

* Career guidance and counseling to center-based child care teachers.

*Educational support in career development: College enrollment; financial compensation for tuition, fees, and books; scholarships

*Professional development seminars

*Site-based training and demonstration to licensed and license-exempt family day care providers
